A specialty carbon material manufacturer based in Houston, Texas, was going to order a jet mill to produce ultra-fine needle coke powder for high-performance battery anodes. Their existing milling process introduced metal contamination and generated excessive heat, which compromised product purity and caused caking issues. After searching online for a high-purity jet mill solution, they reached out to Epic Powder’s technical team for a consultation. We worked closely with them to understand their specific needs and recommended the MQW Jet Mill.

The MQW Jet Mill delivered outstanding results thanks to its key advantages:
- Built-in horizontal classifying wheel with LAVAL single-nozzle design for precise and efficient particle size control
- Key parts (inner lining, classifying wheel, nozzles) can be protected with alumina, zirconia, silicon carbide, or organic coatings to eliminate metal contact and ensure high purity
- 316L stainless steel construction with mirror-polished, dead-end-free finish for easy cleaning
- Low-temperature, media-free operation, ideal for heat-sensitive, low-melting-point, or volatile materials like needle coke
- Closed-loop inert gas circulation and explosion-proof design, safe for flammable, explosive, easily oxidized, or moisture-absorbing powders
After installation, the customer achieved a stable D50 of 2µm at an output of 60 kg/h, with no metal contamination and no thermal degradation. The product quality and consistency exceeded their expectations.
