Sodium Carbonate Grinding Jet Mill Project

A manufacturer of lithium battery materials recently approached Epic Powder with a specific requirement. They needed a jet mill to process sodium carbonate (Na₂CO₃) to an ultrafine particle size. Sodium carbonate is a key raw material for sodium-ion battery cathode synthesis, and particle size consistency directly affects final battery performance.

The client found Epic Powder through online research. They were looking for a reliable solution that could achieve ultrafine grinding without metal contamination. After reviewing our website and technical specifications for battery material applications, they contacted our engineering team.

During the initial consultation, the client explained their requirements in detail. The sodium carbonate would be used for solid-state synthesis of cathode materials. Purity was critical – any metal contamination could affect electrochemical performance. Our team proposed sending a sample for testing at our laboratory. This is standard practice at Epic Powder – we believe in proving performance before any commitment. The client agreed and shipped 50kg of sodium carbonate to our test center.

At our particle processing laboratory, we conducted tests for sodium carbonate using a scaled-down version of our fluidized bed jet mill. The mill features a ceramic-lined grinding chamber to eliminate metal contact, and an integrated high-precision classifier to control particle size.

The test results exceeded expectations. We achieved a particle size of D97 = 6.5µm. The production rate scaled confidently to 200kg/h. The particle size distribution was narrow, with a Span value of 0.95. We shared the complete test report with the client, including particle size analysis charts and video recordings of the test run. The client was impressed with the results. The narrow particle distribution and high purity gave them confidence that our solution would meet their battery-grade material requirements.

Proposed Solution: Epic Powder MQW Jet Mill Systems

Based on the successful tests, we prepared a proposal for two jet mill systems. Each system is designed for continuous production at 200kg/h, with ceramic-lined contact parts to maintain purity. The proposal included the main mill, dust collector, control panel, and installation support.

The client placed an order for two complete systems. They appreciated that we had proven the performance with their actual material before any commitment. Epic Powder provided on-site installation supervision and operator training.

Today, both mills are operating reliably at the client’s facility. The client reports improved consistency in their cathode material synthesis and complete satisfaction with the equipment performance.

This case demonstrates Epic Powder‘s commitment to providing solutions, not just selling equipment. We test with your material, prove the results, and deliver systems that perform as promised. If you are processing sodium carbonate or other battery materials, contact us to discuss your requirements.
