Si presenta in due forme principali: carbonato di calcio leggero (carbonato di calcio precipitato) e carbonato di calcio pesante. Il carbonato di calcio leggero \u00e8 prodotto chimicamente, mentre il carbonato di calcio pesante \u00e8 ottenuto tramite frantumazione e macinazione meccanica. Le loro densit\u00e0 sono simili: 2,4\u20132,6 g\/cm\u00b3 per il calcio leggero e 2,6\u20132,9 g\/cm\u00b3 per il calcio pesante. La differenza fondamentale \u00e8 nella loro densit\u00e0 apparente, che influenza il modo in cui si depositano in volume. Il calcio leggero ha in genere un volume di sedimentazione superiore a 2,5 mL\/g, mentre il calcio pesante varia da 1,2 a 1,9 mL\/g, a seconda della sua forma cristallina e della sua composizione chimica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le particelle leggere di carbonato di calcio sono solitamente a forma di nocciolino di dattero, con un diametro lungo di 5-12 \u03bcm, un diametro corto di 1-3 \u03bcm e una dimensione media di 2-3 \u03bcm. Il calcio pesante, spesso trasportato da regioni come Guangxi, Sichuan e Cina nord-orientale alla Cina settentrionale e alle province costiere, non offre un vantaggio di prezzo rispetto al calcio leggero, fatta eccezione per il prodotto da 400 mesh.
